Would it be proper for a civilian to salute a fallen policeman or fireman as the motorcade pes?

Giving a salute, to me anyway, is reserved for those in uniform. I think if I were a policeman, fireman, or soldier I would see it as a sign of disrespect for a civilian to saulte anything.
