What kind of ukelele should I buy?

I want to buy a ukelele but I need some help! It'll be my first time playing the ukelele (and I don't play the guitar), but I still want to purchase one that sounds good and will last. Any brand suggestions? Also, are soprano or tenor ukeleles more popular to play?
